Christmas Carnage

treeChristmas, the most wonderful time of the year. Full of family, festivities, partying, presents and…panic?

There are a select few who boast mid November that they have all their presents sorted and they are sitting pretty come the carnage of shopping in December. But, for the most part, adults only start thinking about presents toward the beginning of December, when that lover of Christmas in your office or on Facebook (we all have one) keeps counting down the weeks, days and minutes to Christmas, an ever present reminder of your inevitable last minute stress buying. Christmas present shopping can reduce even the most mild mannered adult to tears – the texts, the shops, the frustrated buying before Black Friday and Cyber Monday have ended.

Being one such individual, and a creative one at that, I realised that I really do not have much time left to get inspired and making for Christmas this year (or any weekends to actually make for that matter!). So many people, so little time! All the usual thoughts run through my mind: why didn’t I get started earlier? What shall I make? Will they even like these gifts? But you need to banish all fears if you are going to get crafty this Christmas.

So, as ever, I turn to Pinterest to get inspired. I don’t need to repeat my love of Pinterest (those of you who have read previous posts will know only too well), but it really is an incredible source. The creativity, the inspiration. Whilst I can’t tell you all the things I will be trying (not yet anyway!), here are a few of my faves:-

  1. The DIY doilie candleholder – http://www.theexcitedbride.com/2013/03/04/diy-doilie-candleholder-for-tree-tablescape/
  2. Shell candles – http://simpleparenting.co.uk/how-to-make-shell-candles/
  3. Pretty much ANYTHING on this list – http://www.cosmopolitan.co.uk/worklife/campus/g3864/cool-diy-christmas-gifts/
  4. These Tunnocks teacake Christmas puddings, just because they are adorable – http://blog.nikkimcwilliams.com/2014/11/inside-the-biscuit-tin-4-tunnocks-teacake-christmas-puddings/
  5. And finally, if you’re feeling adventurous (and have enough time between now and Christmas) – http://www.interiorsbysarahlangtry.com/blog-posts//2014/12/diy-pom-pom-trim-stocking-tutorial.html#_a5y_p=4567072 – These you can fill with all sorts of wonders for your friends and family, and then they can reuse them again the following year!

Don’t forget, whatever it is you’re making, a little love and a lot of effort (the homemade always takes much longer than one ever expects) makes a fantastic present. Or at least that’s what I’ve always been told  😉
